A fatal head-on collision on Interstate 15 north of Las Vegas claimed the life of one person and left four others injured Sunday evening, prompting a large emergency response and the temporary closure of all northbound lanes in Clark County.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 6:43 p.m. near mile marker 94 on Interstate 15. Preliminary findings indicate that one of the vehicles, which was traveling southbound, lost control, crossed the median, and collided head-on with a pickup truck traveling in the northbound lanes. The violent impact resulted in extensive damage to both vehicles and triggered an immediate response from emergency personnel.
Nevada State Police, firefighters, paramedics, and other first responders arrived at the scene to provide emergency medical assistance and secure the area. Authorities confirmed that one adult male was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of his next of kin.
Four additional individuals suffered injuries in the collision. Two victims were transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment, while two others were airlifted by medical helicopter because of the severity of their injuries. Officials have not released updates regarding their conditions.
The crash forced the closure of all northbound lanes of Interstate 15 near mile marker 94 for several hours as investigators documented the scene, gathered evidence, and crews worked to remove the damaged vehicles and roadway debris. Motorists experienced lengthy delays while traffic was diverted around the closure. The highway has since reopened, and traffic has returned to normal.
Investigators with the Nevada Highway Patrol continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crossover collision. At this stage of the investigation, authorities have not determined what caused the southbound vehicle to lose control. It remains unknown whether excessive speed, driver impairment, distraction, mechanical failure, roadway conditions, or another contributing factor played a role in the fatal crash.
Officials are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have relevant information, including dash camera footage, to contact the Nevada Highway Patrol as the investigation remains active. Witness statements and additional evidence may help investigators establish the sequence of events leading to the crash.
Additional information, including the identity of the deceased and updates on the conditions of the injured victims, is expected to be released once families have been notified and investigators complete the preliminary stages of their investigation. Authorities continue to remind motorists to remain alert, drive within posted speed limits, and exercise caution, particularly on high-speed highways where crossover collisions can have devastating consequences.
